"This number increased by 5.06 percent compared to the same period in 2022 by 8,856,512 people," said Ministry of Transportation Spokesperson Adita Irawati in her statement, quoted from Antara, Thursday, April 27.
The highest number of air transport passengers was 2,773,187 people, then followed by lake and crossing river transportation (ASDP) 2,132,284 people, rail transportation 1,847,285 people, road transportation 1,818,949 people, and sea transportation 804,071 people.
The Ministry of Transportation also noted that the highest increase in the number of public transport users on backflow occurred on D+2, which was 1,091,740 people. This number exceeded the passenger movement at the peak of the homecoming flow that occurred on D-3 or Wednesday, April 19, which was 1,067,208 people.
"Although yesterday the movement of passengers reached the highest peak, the handling of backflow at transportation nodes at terminals, ports, stations, and airports can be handled properly," said Adita.
Of the total passenger movements on D+2, the highest number of passengers, namely crossing transportation was 292,828 people. Then, 267,117 air transportation, 289,534 land transportation, 203,419 rail transportation, and 88,842 sea transportation.
Meanwhile, PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk recorded 487,986 vehicles returning to the Jabotabek area on D+1 to D+2.
This number is monitored from the four main toll gates (GT), namely GT Cikupa (from Merak), GT Ciawi (from Puncak), and GT Cikampek Utama (from Trans Java) and GT Kalihurip Utama (from Bandung).
The total volume of traffic returning to the Jabotabek area increased by 88.9 percent when compared to normal traffic with a total of 258,360 vehicles and when compared to the 2022 period, it increased 17.0 percent with a total of 416,961 vehicles.
The number of vehicles returning to Jabotabek has only reached 30.45 percent of the prediction of backflow of 1.6 million vehicles in the period H + 1 to D + 7.
"To anticipate the high movement of vehicles during the Eid homecoming period, it has been decided to extend the regulation of goods transport traffic through a joint decree (SKB) of the Director General of Land Transportation and the National Police Headquarters," said Adita.
To avoid overcrowding, the Ministry of Transportation also appealed to the public to travel back on Wednesday-Friday (26-28 April 2023) and avoid a return trip on Sunday-Sunday (30 April-1 May 2023) which is predicted to peak the second phase of backflow.
