Sandiaga Uno Talks About The Importance Of Information Technology In The Development Of Super Priority Tourist Destinations

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, assessed that information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure is not additional infrastructure in building super priority tourist destinations, but is the main infrastructure.

"Once we land in 5 super priority destinations, we will turn on our smartphones and we will be very dependent on signal coverage. (We also discussed) how big data can be used to revive the creative economy sector," he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, January 18th.

Sandi, his nickname, said the government had to move quickly because tourism and the creative economy were the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Currently (tourism) is a sector that supports 34 million Indonesians and is most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

Sandiaga also encouraged health protocols to be implemented in all tourist destinations, not just five super priority destinations.

"We encourage a very strict and disciplined health protocol and also how we encourage the CHSE, namely a clean health safe environment within the scope of tourism and the creative economy," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate, said that the collaboration between his ministry and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy was very important to accelerate recovery efforts in the parekraf sector.

"We will invite cellular operators to simultaneously complete ICT development, especially in commercial areas. Later, in 2022 the telecommunications network or signal availability in administrative areas and residential areas will be implemented," said Johnny.

For your information, the government has set 5 super priority tourist destinations, namely Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang.
