Candidate For National Police Chief Komjen Listyo Sigit Skip Senior At Polri, Kompolnas: No Problem

JAKARTA - The head of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Benny Mamoto said there was nothing wrong with the appointment of Komjen Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the sole candidate for the National Police Chief.

This was conveyed in response to a public polemic if the Criminal Investigation Unit had jumped over his senior at the Bhayangkara Corps.

According to him, an incident like this had happened when President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also proposed the name Tito Karnavian as the Chief of Police.

"If we learned from Mr. Tito's experience, there is no problem. Show him his achievements, performance, abilities, and everyone has accepted it," said Benny after a hearing with Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday, 18 Janurai. .

Benny said that Listyo's appointment as the sole candidate to replace Idham Azis must have been carefully considered. One of them is considering Listyo's retirement, which will still happen in the next few years.

"I am sure the President is considering that," he said.

"We see that until 2024 the presidential term will be more comfortable until it is finished. Instead of two years, two more years," he added.

It is known that a number of names who were more senior than Listyo were also included in the list that was presented from Kompolnas to President Jokowi.

One of them is the Deputy Chief of Police, Gatot Eddy, who is a graduate of the Police Academy class of 1988 or three years above Listyo.

However, based on Surpres number R-02 / Pres / 01/2021 which was conveyed by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno to the Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament, Puan Maharani, Wednesday, January 13, President Jokowi chose his former adjutant as the sole candidate.

"President Joko Widodo has submitted a proposal from the Chief of Police to the Indonesian Parliament, on behalf of Komjen Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to obtain DPR approval," Puan said in his official statement some time ago.
