Ensure Electricity Network During ASEAN Summit Is Safe, PLN Inaugurates Flores Control Center

PT PLN (Persero) inaugurated the Flores Control Center to ensure that the electricity supply monitoring system at the ASEAN Summit (KTT) in Labuan Bajo on May 9-11, 2023 went well.

"The presence of this Control Center will certainly make electricity on the island of Flores more reliable, so that it is very ready for the ASEAN Summit," said General Manager of PLN Main Unit for the East Nusa Tenggara Region, I Gede Agung Sindu Putra, quoted on Tuesday, April 18. Sindu explained, previously the Flores electricity system was divided into two, namely the West Flores System from Labuan Bajo to Bajawa, and the East Flores System from Ende to Maumere. Now the two systems have been connected (interconnection) since July 29, 2021.

In the Flores Control Center, there are the Flores Regional Control Center (RC) and the Maumere Distribution Control Center (DCC) which are the centers for electricity distribution control for the Flores system from Labuan Bajo to Maumere and the Flores Island electricity distribution control center.

"Not only for the ASEAN Summit, with this reliable system we (PLN) are optimistic that it will help increase community productivity," continued Sindu.

Sindu added that Flores' readiness to face the ASEAN Summit was also supported by several types of power plants, including gas engine power plants (PLTMG), geothermal power plants (PLTP), diesel power plants (PLTD), steam power plants (PLTU).

Furthermore, mini-hydro power plants (PLTM) and solar power plants (PLTS) are spread across Labuan Bajo to Maumere. Channeled through the 70-kilo Volt High Volt (kV) Air Line (SUTT) and 150 kV as well as the 20 kV distribution network.

Meanwhile, the RCC Flores currently operates 9 70 kV and 2 GI 150 kV Main Substations, and 70 kV SUTT transmissions along the 819.474 kilometre circuit (kms) consisting of 1,250 tower units, and 150 kV SUTT along 51.780 kms and 77 towers that have been built from Labuan Bajo to Maumere.

"Thus, the RCC and DCC facilities are the controllers and supervision of the entire Flores Island electricity system for 24 hours, where electric energy sources from power generation centers in Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Ende, Ropa, Maumere, Larantuka and its surroundings," concluded Sindu.
