Manado Today: 6 People Died Due To Floods And Landslides In Manado

JAKARTA - Based on a report from the Operations Control Center for the National Disaster Management Agency as of Monday, 18 January 2021 at 09.30 WIB, 6 people died due to flooding and landslides in Manado City, North Sulawesi Province.

Reporting from BNPB, floods and landslides occurred due to high intensity rain and unstable soil structure on Saturday, January 16, at 15.09 WITA with a water level of about 50 to 300 centimeters.

The BNPB Pusdalops also noted that 500 people were displaced, some of whom have returned to their homes.

In addition, material losses due to the disaster included two heavily damaged housing units and 10 moderately damaged housing units. The team in the field is also still collecting data on damage to houses.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Sulawesi Province and Manado City conducted rapid assessments and evacuations with SAR, TNI / Polri, communities and volunteers. In addition, the Manado City BPBD also provided ready-to-eat food assistance to the refugees.

North Sulawesi Provincial BPBD together with Manado City BPBD will actively clean up post-flood material and landslides on Monday, January 18th.

The BPBD of Manado City is currently monitoring that the flood has receded and the weather is hot.

A number of districts affected by this disaster include Tikala District, Paal Dua District, Malalayang District, Sario District, Bunaken District, Tuminting District, Mapanget District, Singkil District and Wenang District.

Based on the monitoring of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Manado City has the potential to experience rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds. BNPB urges the public to remain vigilant and alert in the midst of the rainy season that will occur in a number of areas until February 2021.
