Get To Know The Megamas Manado Area That Was Hit By A Big Wave And Is Now In Disarray

JAKARTA - The Megamas Manado area, North Sulawesi, was filled with trash and boats after big waves hit the business center on Sunday, January 17. Not only garbage, some rocks and wood were also stranded at several points.

As of today, Monday, January 18th, his condition is still messy and has not been handled properly. Not only in the Megamas area, water also enters Manado Town Square (Mantos).

"Big waves crashed into the two areas, causing sea water to flood the area, even reaching Jalan Raya Piere Tenden Boulevard," said the Mayor of Manado, Vicky Lumentut, as reported by VOI from Antara, Monday, January 18.

Vicky Lumentut also appealed to the surrounding community to be vigilant and asked them to stay away from danger areas that could threaten safety.

For information, the Megamas Manado area has been one of the tourist areas for the people of Manado. The reason is that in the business and tourism area, people can have recreation with various entertainment venues complete with tourist facilities, including culinary tours.

Reported by VOI from ejournal.unsrat.ac.id, the Megamas area is known as a coastal reclamation area which covers 37 hectares. The reclamation project in the area was originally intended to withstand the level of abrasion on the coast of Manado which continues to increase from year to year.

For this reason, several investors began to look at the project with economic goals by building shopping centers, restaurants, entertainment venues and shopping buildings.

During its construction, PT Megasurya Nusalestari was chosen as a developer and started construction in 1996. The project was stopped in 1998 because of the Monetary Crisis that had occurred at that time.

The reconstruction project started in 1999. The Megamas area continues to be developed to become an integrated business and tourism area complete with various supporting facilities.
