East Java Regional Police Mobile Brigade Moves To Lumajang, Helps Victims Of Mount Semeru Eruption

JAKARTA - The East Java Regional Police (Polda) sent 300 personnel from the Mobile Brigade to Lumajang Regency to help deal with the impact of the eruption of Mount Semeru.

According to the Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Kombes Gatot Repli Handoko, the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel who were sent to Lumajang were equipped with supporting equipment for handling the impact of the disaster.

"The equipment will be needed at the location of Mount Semeru in Lumajang," he said in Surabaya, Sunday, January 17.

Gatot explained that the supplies prepared included 10 tents, 300 velbeds, 600 masks, 100 boots, 100 gloves, 10 sets of tables and chairs, as well as 10 sets of stretchers, 100 shovels, 100 hoes, and 300 coats.

In addition, according to him, Brimob personnel prepared two field kitchen cars, one water cannon car, one SAR car, two trucks, four four-wheeled vehicles, and 12 two-wheeled vehicles.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) noted that Mount Semeru on Saturday, January 16 at 17.24 WIB released hot clouds of avalanche with a sliding distance of four kilometers towards Besuk Kobokan.

In addition there are lava avalanches with a sliding distance of 500 meters to one kilometer from the Jonggring Seloko Crater towards Besuk Kobokan.
