Samsung Announces Third Generation 108MP Camera Sensor, Produces Sharper Images
JAKARTA - Samsung is the first company to launch a 108MP camera sensor and continues to introduce new variants. In line with that, the South Korean giant has now announced the third generation of the 108MP sensor, the Samsung ISOCELL HM3.
In a press release reported by Samsung Newsroom, the updated HM3 camera sensor comes with a number of important improvements and new tricks for better results in terms of image clarity, dynamic range and autofocus performance.
This sensor is a 1 / 1.33-inch sensor that uses 0.8μm pixels and 9-in-1 Nanocell pixel binning to produce 12MP resolution images.
In addition, the company has also introduced another new technology called Super PD Plus which can improve autofocus.
Samsung says that the Super PD Plus adds an AF-optimized micro lens via a face detection focusing agent, increasing the accuracy by up to 50 percent.
This technology ensures that moving subjects are always in focus and that low light performance is also improved.
This camera is also equipped with Smart ISO Pro - a high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging technology that uses a dual conversion gain (iDCG) intra-scene solution.
This technology can capture frames in high and low ISO and combine them into a single image in 12-bit color depth with noise reduction.
The company added that with a low light mode, the technology increases light sensitivity by up to 50 percent to capture brighter and clearer photos in low light environments compared to its predecessor.
Samsung claims to have reduced energy absorption in preview mode, thanks to a new sensor design for the ISOCELL HM3.
Regarding availability, the company has revealed that it is already in mass production but it remains to be seen which device will be the first to have this new camera sensor.
