Ahsan / Hendra Advance To The Thailand Open Quarter Final
JAKARTA - Indonesian men's doubles Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan advanced to the Thailand Open quarter-finals after overthrowing India's representative Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty in the second round which took place at Impact Arena, Bangkok.
In the 34-minute match, Ahsan / Hendra, who were the second seeds, won two straight games with a score of 21-19, 21-17.
The first game takes place at a very fast tempo. Ahsan / Hendra actually fell behind 0-4 at the start of the match.
Ahsan / Hendra equalized before Ranki / Shetty returned to lead with the score 8-7. But the pair nicknamed The Daddies managed to turn things around by scoring four consecutive points to lead 11-8 in the first interval.
After the interval, Ahsan / Hendra were matched twice (17-17, 19-19), but in the end they succeeded in closing the first game with a score of 21-19 in just 14 minutes.
Not so different from the first game, the second game also takes place quickly. Ahsan / Hendra did not even give their opponents the opportunity to lead the points.
After the 11-8 interval, Ahsan / Hendra continued to dominate until they successfully ended the match with a score of 21-17 within 19 minutes.
This result is their third win in a row over the men's doubles from India. From a total of three previous meetings, two of them were won by Ahsan / Hendra at the 2018 China Open and the 2020 Indonesia Masters.
Furthermore, in the Thailand Open quarterfinals, Ahsan / Hendra will meet South Korean men's doubles Choi SolGyu / Seo Seung Jae.
