Nvidia CTO Michael Kagan Calls ChatGPT More Useful Than Cryptocurrency

JAKARTA - leading graphics card manufacturer Nvidia claims that developing artificial intelligence (AI) applications such as chatbot Chatgpt is more valuable than mining crypto. This was conveyed by Nvidia's Chief Technology Officer, Michael Kagan.

Kagan stated that cryptocurrencies do not provide "something useful to society", although the company made significant sales in this field.

Although Nvidia has sold a number of VGAs to the crypto industry, Kagan insists that the use of their GPU processing power to develop AI applications is more useful than mining crypto.

Kagan added that the company's decision to limit the use of GPUs to extract cryptocurrencies, such as ether (ETH), aims to ensure sufficient supply for Nvidia's preferred customers.

Kagan also explained that AI has greater potential than crypto. In Chatgpt chatbot development, Nvidia uses around 10,000 GPUs in supercomputers to train the app's first version. Microsoft has also recently purchased tens of thousands of Nvidia GPUs focused on AIs for Openai, Microsoft-funded Chatgpt developers.

Although Nvidia has sold 20,000 of its successor chip units, the H100 chip, to Amazon for its cloud services, AWS, and another 16,000 units to Oracle, Nvidia also leases access to the chip via DGX cloud services, and is also involved in other AI projects. CEO Jensen Huang called Nvidia the engine behind AI's "iPhone moment," and predicts Nvidia-backed "generative AI" will "recreate almost all industries."

Although crypto and AI compete for resources such as those provided by Nvidia, the two are likely to meet more frequently in the future. The Coinbase crypto exchange announced that it had tested ChatGPT as a tool for risk assessment before listing tokens and said the results were worth further investigation.
