Back From Injury, Neymar Bring PSG To Win The French Super Cup
JAKARTA - Neymar returned from injury and immediately scored a goal when Paris Saint Germain beat Olympique de Marseille 2-1 to win the French Super Cup on Thursday morning WIB.
This is the eighth successive success for Paris Saint Germain in winning the League Cup.
The Brazilian striker, who has been sidelined since mid-December with an ankle injury, netted his goal from the penalty spot in the second half to double Mauro Icardi's first-half opener.
Icardi, who has struggled to score goals this season, slotted home in the first half to set the stage for the reigning league champions to win over last season's runners-up Marseille.
Icardi, who had earlier seen his goal ruled out for offside, put PSG ahead six minutes before the break from close range after his header was deflected back by goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
Neymar then entered the field to replace Angel Di Maria in the 65th minute, his first match in 2021.
He put on a dazzling display which was later rewarded by a goal from the penalty spot five minutes before normal time had finished after Icardi was brought down in the box by Yohann Pele.
Dimitri Payet scored Marseille's reply in the 89th minute after picking up a cross from Florian Thauvin but the goal was not enough to stop PSG from winning the second in coach Mauricio Pochettino's three games with the French capital.
