Twitter Source Code Hacked, GitHub Immediately Suspends Repository!

JAKARTA - Twitter has surprisingly become a victim of hacking, where the repository containing the social media network's source code was publicly revealed on GitHub.

Shortly after learning about this information, GitHub was then asked by Twitter to delete the repository owned by a user under the name FreeSpeech Enthusiast.

On Friday last week, Twitter submitted a document requesting the removal of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to the Northern California District Court for Microsoft's GitHub to immediately remove the code.

According to Twitter, the repository illegally hosts the proprietary source code for the Twitter platform and internal tools.

In addition to removing the repository, the Elon Musk social network also requested information that could help identify names, addresses, telephones, email addresses, social media profiles and IP addresses connected to FreeSpeechEnthusiast.

Twitter also requested user data that may have accessed the repository before it was suspended.

"Please save and provide a copy of the history of uploading/downloading any related access (and any contact info, IP address, or other session info related to the same thing), and log regarding anything related to this rep or any fork from it, before deleting all violating content from GitHub, "said the DMCA notification.

GitHub obeys DMCA deletion notices, suspends public access to repositories, and issues copyright requests for transparency.

Launching TechCrunch, Tuesday, March 28, however, an internal Twitter investigation shows people responsible for the code leak had left the company last year. And, Twitter officials also just found out about the leak.
