Marc Marquez Sentenced To 2 Long Lap Penalty For Crashing Miguel Oliveira, Aleix Espargaro: Too Light
JAKARTA - Aprilia Racing racer Aleix Espargaro also talked about the sentence handed down to Repsol Honda champion Marc Marquez. According to Espargaro, the sentence was too light.
Marc Marquez was sentenced to two long lap penalty for being judged as the cause of the incident that occurred at the Portuguese MotoGP 2023 on Sunday, March 26. Marquez's maneuver resulted in a collision with Jorge Martin and then hit the RNF Aprilia Cryptodata rider, Miguel Oliveira.
As a result of the incident on the third lap, Marquez and Oliveira failed to continue the race. In fact, both drivers also suffered injuries.
Marquez's actions are considered by a number of parties to be rewarded with more severe than two long lap penalty. Espargaro even assessed that Marquez should be subject to a one-race suspension.
"I think it (the punishment) is too light, they should at least punish him (Maruez) for one race. Like Takaaki Nakagami at Barcelona," said Aleix Espargaro as quoted by Crash on Monday, March 27.
"In the end, I didn't determine the regulations. I just hope Miguel (Oliveira) is fine. The speed at the time of the accident could destroy his knee," said Espargaro.
Oliveira is known to have suffered no serious injuries. Although he looked in pain after the incident, the Portuguese rider only suffered bruises on his leg.
The Manta of the KTM racer may have returned to racing in the Argentine MotoGP on April 3, although not in a hundred percent condition.
"Brad hit my knee and I felt pain for a year. So I hope Oliveira is fine," explained Espargaro about the same experience.
