51 West Sumatra Police Personnel Are Positive For Using Drugs And 7 Members Are Fired Throughout 2020
JAKARTA - The West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) recorded that 51 of their personnel tested positive for drugs through urine tests carried out throughout 2020.
Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Regional Police, Kombes, Satake Bayu, said that a total of seven personnel had been fired because of this drug problem.
"Meanwhile, three personnel are being punished," said Kombes Satake, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 13.
According to him, this is a decisive step taken against members of the police in the area who are involved in drug abuse.
"This is a form of commitment to eradicate drug abuse in the area," he said.
He said this commitment started from within the ranks of the West Sumatra Police and for the members involved would be given strict sanctions.
According to him, this step is in accordance with instructions from the West Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Toni Harmanto, starting in 2021, members who are positive for drugs will be subject to criminal proceedings.
"Members who are positive for drugs will be prosecuted. The order of the Chief of Police was not only disciplined but also punished, ”he said.
According to him, the criminal sanction for members of the Police in the ranks of the West Sumatra Regional Police who are known to be positive for drugs is to provide a deterrent effect and prevent other members from doing this.
"Don't let any members get involved, because the strict sanctions can be fired," he said.
