Parties Contributing To PPKM Receive Awards, Coordinating Minister Airlangga: Also Given To Neighboring Countries To Help Vaccines
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave awards to various parties for their support for the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) Program for handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
Jokowi said this award is an appreciation to all components of the nation at the center and regions, who are working hard to deal with the pandemic according to their capacity.
"The award is also given to neighboring countries for drug and vaccine assistance," said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto when delivering a speech in Jakarta, Monday, March 20.
According to him, since the PPKM was revoked by the government as of December 31, 2022, Indonesia has entered the transition stage to endemic.
The decline in COVID-19 cases has occurred in almost all countries, including Indonesia. Even the survey serology held by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) together with the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia (FKM UI), coverage of population immunity levels reached 99 percent.
As of March 17, 2023, said Airlangga, active cases nationally were 3,701, with the accumulated total confirmed cases reaching 6.7 million cases. Active cases were dominated by Java-Bali Island 85.81 percent, while outside Java-Bali 14.19 percent.
"In general, during March 2023 there was a decline and the highest active cases occurred in Kalimantan. The cure rate outside Java-Bali was in the range of 96.96 percent," said Airlangga.
According to Luhut, various policy steps were implemented to deal with the pandemic, including the toughest step, namely PPKM.
"The PPKM policy is not an easy choice, community activities must stop, which has an impact on economic life. This choice must be taken because medical interventions in the form of medicines and oxygen are still very limited at that time," said Luhut.
He said health facilities in the country during the period June 2021 were already on the verge. Emergency hospitals must be established, because existing treatment facilities are no longer able to accommodate patients.
"The oxygen crisis occurs, so it must be imported from outside. Indonesia is grateful to receive oxygen tanks from the industry in Morowali, Central Sulawesi," he said.
In addition, not a few health workers (nakes) died in helping various tasks. The handling of the pandemic is also accompanied by testing and tracing policies in various houses of residents and regions.
Vaccination was carried out simultaneously by involving various parties and until mid-March 2023 more than 450 million doses of vaccine had been injected. "So that Indonesia is ranked fifth in the world with a lot of vaccinations. All of this is thanks to the strong leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
In addition, he continued, Indonesia is also included in the ranks of the best countries in the world in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic which has received appreciation from various countries, including the World Health Organization aka WHO.
"The success of handling the pandemic is the cooperation of all parties. This success is based on databases, science and technology use. We work together unconditionally," he concluded.
