JAKARTA - The Chinese embassy in the UK condemned the visit of British lawmakers to Taiwan this week. Britain is accused of insisting on visiting the island despite strong opposition from China.Meanwhile, Taiwan's Presidential Office said a group of six lawmakers from the All-British-Taiwan Parliamentary Group would meet with President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei on Monday, March 20.China views democratically-ruled Taiwan as its own territory and has stepped up military, political and economic pressure to assert these claims.A statement from the Chinese embassy in London, lawmakers have "violated to visit Taiwan's territory in China despite firm opposition from China"."This is a major interference in China's internal affairs and a serious wrong signal for Taiwan's independence separatist forces," the embassy said."We would like to inform relevant British politicians that any actions that harm China's interests will definitely be fought strongly by China," he added, without elaborating.Taiwan regularly hosts visiting foreign lawmakers, who are routinely condemned by China. The Taiwanese government rejects China's claim of sovereignty, saying only the Taiwanese can determine their future.
