Gregoria Mariska Tunjung's Satisfaction Despite Being Eliminated In The Quarter-finals Of All England 2023 From Chen Yu Fei

JAKARTA - Gregoria Mariska Tunjung's hope to go further in the All England 2023 event did not materialize. The Indonesian women's singles struggle was stopped in the quarter-finals.

Gregoria lost to Chinese badminton player Chen Yu Fei in two straight games 22-24, 21-23 on Saturday, March 16 in the morning WIB.

The PBSI athlete tried to take the positive side of his defeat in the quarter-finals of the All England 2023. He said he was happy with his performance during the match at the BWF Super 1000 event.

In fact, according to him, he was happy when he had to face Chen Yu Fei, who was ranked above Gregoria.

"Honestly, I'm very happy to be playing with Chen Yu Fei again after last year's World Tour Finals. For me, it's a pleasure to be able to play with players who are ranked far above me," said Gregoria in a written statement released by PBSI.

According to Gregoria, fighting athletes who are ranked higher is a challenge and experience. Gregoria learned a valuable lesson against a more experienced opponent.

"Overall, happy with today's match but not satisfied. I actually wanted to make a surprise like I said yesterday," he said, as quoted by Antara.

Responding to his defeat to the world number four badminton player, Gregoria said he was still hesitant in providing resistance, especially during rallies.

He also said that Chen had a more reliable mental quality. That's what makes the Chinese player able to remain calm even though he was under pressure from the Indonesian representatives.

"During the rally, I had many doubts. Several times Chen Yu Fei was more daring with his weapons, especially at the end point. Indeed, he looked calmer," Gregoria explained.

Completed All England, Gregoria wants to be more consistent in the next match. Despite losing, Gregoria is getting bolder to face superior badminton players in the future.

This experience will also be his provision to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Like other athletes, participating in the Olympics is also the dream of the badminton player who was born in Wonogiri, Central Java.

"I don't want to think long, from myself I want to be maximal in every match that is followed. But I still have a target of myself wanting to play at the Olympics next year. Now I hope it can be stable and the results will continue to be good," concluded Gregoria.
