JAKARTA - The Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB-IDI) reported that 24 doctors and health workers were trapped in a riot situation in Yahukimo, Papua.

"I coordinated last night with friends in Jayapura, the current conditions are safe and they are being treated by IDI friends," said Chairman of PB IDI Adib Khumaidi on the Public Hearing agenda of the Health Bill at the Indonesian Ministry of Health Building, Jakarta, Friday.

Adib said the local government had coordinated with the police team to secure doctors and health workers.

"Hopefully it doesn't happen like in 2019. There was one doctor who died in the riots in Wamena," he said.

Adib said IDI played a role in responding to the situation in the regions through coordination with relevant stakeholders which had been well established so far.

The role of stakeholders from the central and regional governments, said Adib, is the key in solving problems, especially at the regional level.
