Sad News From Sports: Olympic Athletic Legend Carolina Rieuwpassa Dies

JAKARTA Sad news hit the Indonesian athletic sport. The sports legend Carolina Rieuwwpassa is reported to have died.

Carolina died on Thursday, March 16 morning WIB at Stella Maris Hospital, Makassar. The funeral home of the late Carolina was on Jalan Gunung Nona/ Pattirosompe, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Chairman (Ketum) of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano in his statement expressed his condolences for the passing of Carolina.

"May you rest in peace and get a noble place in the side of God Almighty," said Chairman (Ketum) of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano.

"We will always remember your service and your struggle to make achievements for Indonesia, we will continue. Goodbye, Indonesian Sports Patriot," he added.

During her lifetime, a woman who was born on February 7, 1949 was the first female runner to represent Indonesia at the most prestigious event of the Olympics.

He competed in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the 1972 XX Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. Then he returned to represent Indonesia at the next Olympics in 1976 in Montreal, Canada.

At the Asian level, this Maluku-blooded athlete won a bronze medal of 100 meters and 200 meters of the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok. He also won the 1977 SEA Games of Kuala Lumpur and Perak 200 meters in the same multi-event.
