Supply Of Agricultural Water Needs, Two Papuan Immigration Prepared
JAKARTA - Two irrigation channels for Sanggar Sima Dam in Nabire Regency, Central Papua Province and Keerom Regency, Papua to supply water needs on local residents' agricultural land.
Head of the Papua River Basin Center Nimbrot Rumaropen said the two existing irrigation sites built in Nabire and Keerom are expected to be the main sources to provide water needs in an effort to serve residents' agricultural land.
He said the Wanggar Sima Dam was built to irrigate agricultural land with a capacity of 2,582 m3/second on an area of 3,200 hectares in Nabire Regency.
With the Wanggar Sima dam building, Nimbrot continued, it is also in utilizing the potential for high rainfall in the area.
Meanwhile, the irrigation dam building Arso, Keerom Regency, he continued, is to supply water needs for the agricultural sector for the development of corn commodities with a land area of 3,000 hectares.
Nimbrot hopes that through the facility, a dam will be built to obtain irrigation water rights to support the local agricultural sector.
"Especially to provide certainty and protection to the community of water-wearing farmers through surface water and underground water sources," Nimbrot said, quoting Antara.
For other program activities in 2023/2024, according to Nimbrot, the Papua River Basin Center also focuses on optimizing irrigation building maintenance and rehabilitation operations (PORT).
Nimbrot admitted, in accordance with the Ministry of PUPR's policy, the results of the physical development facilities that have been built must also be maintained properly
