Thomas Ramdhan's Interest In Bass Starting From Accident

JAKARTA - Thomas Ramdhan from GIGI conveyed the story behind his interest in bass instruments in a podcast session on Barry Likumahuwa's YouTube channel some time ago.

Thomas said it all started from his journey as a guitarist first.

"Actually, the beginning was definitely a guitar, yes, but almost everyone's family played music. And my sister played bass coincidentally. So from the beginning I played guitar, I even had lessons and even studied classical guitars during grade 3 elementary school. Class 4 just appeared to bring a folk, that's how you play harmonics yourself and sing," said Thomas.

After that, he said that he began to collect several songs with bass because one of the bassists in his band was too busy dating.

"Well, the 5th grade I started playing the band until junior high school. I'm still playing guitar. Well, then we rented a joint band studio first. Yes, the duration is 3-4 hours. If for example one of us can't get involved, it's a loss, right," he added.

"Well, this one is my bassist dating, so there is no time to get involved. In the end, because that's how I finally like to get the bass too so that the training process can be fast in the studio," he explained.

As a result, through this process, Thomas indirectly felt that a road was opened to a higher level as a bassist.

"Yes, it's because the road has been opened, yes, suddenly an offer was ordered to accompany great artists in West Java because they didn't have a bassist. Well, that's where it started to listen to various references to improve my bass skills," concluded Thomas.
