Liverpool Vs Man United, Wrong Ambition Aims For The Reds' Most Goalscorer Record
JAKARTA - Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is aiming for the Reds' top scorer in the match to host Manchester United, Sunday 5 March at 23.30 WIB.
It also broke the record for the Reds legend, Robbie Fowler as Liverpool's top scorer in the Premier League. The Egyptian sticker only needed two goals to surpass 128 goals
This season Mohamed Salah is not at his best, having only scored nine goals in 24 league games for Jurgen Klopp's side.
The former Chelsea and Roma forward hopes he doesn't need to need many games to break Fowler's record.
"This record feels very special to me. When I came, after my first season, I scored 32 goals, and I thought I wanted to be the top scorer for Liverpool in the Premier League," Mohamed Salah told Sky Sports.
"I thought that I should pursue it. It was one of my motivations. Every day I wake up and want to break that record," he added.
Liverpool will host MU at Anfield. Mohamed Salah has scored 10 goals against the Red Devils in all competitions, the most compared to other Liverpool players.
"Being number one will be special for my Liverpool career. It's something I'm really after," said the 30-year-old.
Mohamed Salah is listed as the most fertile African player in the Premier League. He was also Liverpool's top scorer in European competition with a goal he scored when Liverpool lost 2-5 to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
"I don't know how many seasons I will be here. But if you solve it after six seasons then it is something great and something I would be very proud of," he said.
Despite aiming for Fowler's record, Mohamed Salah emphasized that the team's success was more important than individual achievements.
"To be fair, as long as we achieve something as a team, that's the most important thing for me. For me, I can win trophies for the team, make the players happy, and make my club at the top more important," said Mohamed Salah.
