Looking For Long-Term Solutions So That The Pertamina Plumpang Depot Fire Tragedy Does Not Repeat
JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI, Deddy Yevri Sitorus, urged the Central Government and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to seriously resolve issues related to residential areas in dangerous areas. This is the aftermath of the fire at the Pertamina Plumpang Depot, North Jakarta, which ate many victims.
He hopes that the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), especially Pertamina, will immediately sit down together with the government to find long-term solutions so that this incident does not happen again.
"No one can guarantee that the same incident will not happen again in the future. It is already a vulnerable fuel storage facility because it is flammable, either by natural causes or due to negligence or sabotage," said Deddy, as quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 4.
"There are only two choices, relocating residents or relocating the Pertamina TBBM Depot," he continued
Deddy said that the condition of settlements that were almost attached to the giant fuel tank was indeed at high risk. For this reason, a solution is needed.
Deddy then, asked that currently all energy be directed to deal with victims and refugees. Fire victims require a long healing process and a big cost.
Evacuating residents also need attention and support until a problem solution is reached regarding settlements.
"I hope that the affected residents will no longer force themselves to return to living in the dangerous area," said Deddy.
The Pertamina Plumpang depot, North Jakarta caught fire on Friday night (3/3). The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 17 deaths in the incident. In addition, 49 people were seriously injured and 2 people were slightly injured.
