AS Roma Receives Cryptocurrencies For Merchandise Payments
JAKARTA - AS Roma, a well-known Italian football club, is now accepting payments using DigitalBits (XDB) which is referred to as a "leading blockchain for brands". This payment can be made at the club's five main retail stores, including Via del totala, Piazza Colonana, Ottaviano, Porta in Rome, and fan zones at Stadio Olimpico.
Based on a press release shared with CryptoPotato, customers can buy AS Roma branded merchandise using DigitalBits. Payments are made through the AstraX mobile wallet by scanning the QR code, where payments are processed within seconds, and customers are given money back via XDB.
The payment was processed by the DigitalBits blockchain, with additional support from Coinbar payment processing. According to Daniele Mensi, Managing Director at the DigitalBits Foundation, "this is a big step for the DigitalBits community because we want to encourage crypto adoption and Web3."
The Minister of Social Affairs also considers this partnership as the perfect next step in providing a consumer-friendly orientation experience to the next generation of Web3 users. AS Roma became the first professional football organization to use blockchain technology.
By the end of 2021, Australian baseball club Perth Heat also joined the full Bitcoin standard, accepting payments and changing most of its balance sheets to BTC. However, crypto payments are still a challenge for many businesses and brands due to high price volatility.
To address this issue, many businesses provide services that convert cryptocurrencies into fiat at selling points, although these solutions require centralized storage for consumer cryptocurrencies. Therefore, AS Roma's move in accepting crypto payments is expected to expand crypto adoption and introduce blockchain technology to mainstream.
