Sriwijaya's Official Statement Regarding The SJ-182 Aircraft That Crashed In The Thousand Islands

JAKARTA - PT Sriwijaya Air Group issued an official statement regarding the information on the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 flight which was reported missing around the Thousand Islands today, Saturday, January 9.

Through a written message, Sriwijaya Air's Corporate Communication said they confirmed that the SJ-182 flight from Jakarta to Pontianak had lost contact on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 14:40 WIB.

"Until now, we continue to coordinate with the relevant authorities and provide all the necessary support," said a Sriwijaya release, Saturday night.

Furthermore, this national airline also disclosed information regarding the manifest of the aircraft which was known to take off at 14:36 WIB.

"The details of the passengers on the SJ-182 flight are 40 adults, 7 children, 3 babies and 6 crew members as passengers," said Sriwijaya Air.

In order to accommodate the information needs of passenger families, airlines have opened hotlines at 021 - 8063 7816 and 021 - 8063 7817.

Previously, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi also mentioned that the information center for the search for Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft for passenger families was at the Terminal 2D Arrival Post at Soetta Airport.

"Our prayers go out to all our passengers and crew and their families," said Sriwijaya in a release.

For information, the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft took off from Soekarno Hatta Airport to Pontianak at 14:36 WIB. At 14.37 WIB it passed 1700 feet and made contact with the Jakarta Approach. Aircraft are allowed to rise to an altitude of 29,000 feet following the Standard Instrument Departure.

At 14:40 WIB, the Jakarta Approach saw the Sriwijaya Air plane not heading for 075 degrees but heading to the Northwest (North West), therefore it was asked by ATC to report the direction of the plane.

Not long after, within seconds, the plane disappeared from radar. The operations manager coordinates directly with Basarnas, destination airports, and other related agencies.
