LPSK Ready To Provide Protection For Witnesses In Police Shooting Cases To 6 FPI Laskar
JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is ready to provide protection for witnesses who are aware of the shooting incident involving the FPI laskar and the police on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road on December 7 or what Komnas HAM calls the Karawang Incident. The goal is that the shooting cases of the six FPI soldiers can be revealed clearly and transparently.
LPSK Deputy Chairman Edwin Partogi said his party had received six applications for witness protection in the shooting incident. Regarding the request, his party is currently investigating further.
In addition, with the new findings of Komnas HAM, it is possible that efforts to resolve them through legal channels will be continued and this will allow other suspects to appear in the incident. Moreover, this incident drew public attention.
"So that the public can find out who was the perpetrator in the incident which Komnas HAM considered an act of unlawful killing," said Edwin in his written statement, Saturday, January 9.
Furthermore, he considered that in this case many witnesses held important information about the shooting incident. So, in the future LPSK will coordinate further with Komnas HAM and hope that more witnesses will speak up. "LPSK will guarantee their safety," he said.
"As information for the six witnesses who have submitted applications to the LPSK, we continue to monitor their mental security situation," added Edwin.
Previously reported, Komnas HAM had submitted the results of their investigation of the Karawang Incident. As a result, they said there were two different contexts in the one shooting incident.
The context of the first incident occurred on Jalan International Karawang until it was thought to have reached KM 48 Cikampek Toll. Komnas HAM said that when this incident occurred, there was a hand in hand, bumping into each other, causing a shootout between the FPI laskar and police officers assigned to follow FPI Grand Imam Rizieq Shihab in an investigation into a case of violation of health protocols.
Furthermore, there is a context for the second incident which was later called by Komnas HAM where human rights violations occurred in it. Because, as many as four FPI laskar who were still alive when brought by the police were actually found dead afterward.
"Regarding the KM 50 incident and above, there were four people who were still alive under the control of state officials who were later found dead so that the incident was a form of human rights violation," said the Commissioner and Chair of the Komnas HAM Investigation Team Choirul Anam in a press conference at his office. Friday, January 8th.
Based on these findings, the deaths of four people were called Komnas HAM as a form of unlawful killing.
"The shooting of four people at one time without any other effort being made to avoid the increasing number of fatalities, indicates an act of unlawful killing of four FPI soldiers," he said.
