Rain Since Evening, Residents' Houses In Jondul Padang Are Inundated By A 1 Meter Flood

JAKARTA - The houses of residents in Jondul Rawang, Padang City, West Sumatra Province, were flooded with a height of about 1 meter. This is due to the high rainfall since Friday, January 8 evening.

"The rain had been pouring down since Friday afternoon and inundating my rented house with a height of about one meter," said one resident named Syafrullah, quoted by Antara, Saturday, January 9.

He said that around 19.00 WIB the water had started to inundate the road in the local area. Meanwhile, the rain, until 21.00 WIB, never stopped. As a result, water began to push into people's homes.

"Seeing this condition, I immediately moved all the items and utensils onto the stove table so that it would not be exposed to water," he said.

The same thing was said by another resident, Doni (40), whose residence was also flooded. "Forced to move goods to a higher place so as not to be exposed to water," he said.

Until 00.00 WIB, puddles still occurred at the residence of Doni or Syafrullah.

"You can't do anything about it (the house) because the water is still stagnant. After receding, it will start cleaning," he said.

The residents hope that the government will make flooding in Jondul Rawang a concern because it is a flood-prone area.

Apart from the Jondul Rawang area, the rain also caused inundation on a number of main roads in Padang, such as Jalan Gajah Mada, Ahmad Yani, Khatib.
