The COVID-19 Vaccine Is Not Recommended For Pregnant And Breastfeeding Women

JAKARTA - Vaccineologist and specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Dirga Sakti Rambe, said that pregnant and breastfeeding women are not recommended to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination.

"Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine with any brand has not yet been recommended," said Sakti Rambe, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 8.

This needs to be conveyed considering the many questions from the public regarding the safety of COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant and lactating women. He asked mothers to be asked to wait regarding the continued development of vaccines.

In general, he said vaccines are an important instrument in dealing with a pandemic. It should be understood, implementation takes time including distribution to the regions.

Although three million doses of the Sinovac brand of vaccine have landed in the country, he asked the public to comply with the implementation of health protocols, namely wearing masks, maintaining distance and washing hands with soap.

By implementing health protocols as well as implementing vaccinations, it is hoped that protection for the community will be more optimal.

In addition, he continued, so far all vaccine brands including Sinovac were known to be still effective in dealing with new types of COVID-19 mutations. However, the public is reminded not to allow these new types of mutations to continue to grow.

"The trick is to reduce the spread and implement the health protocol," he said.
