AC / DC's New Album Stands Tall Among The UK's Best-selling Vinyl Rows
JAKARTA - AC / DC's comeback album set a record. According to the Official Charts, Power Up, along with albums by Queen, Pink Floyd and The Beatles, are among the UK's best-selling vinyl releases of 2020.
Topping the year-end vinyl album charts overall was Fleetwood Mac's 1997 work, Rumors, which sold 32,500 copies. Elsewhere, Power Up lands at No.8, Queen's Greatest Hits album No. 7, and Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon at No. 13.
This chart also includes two album titles from The Beatles; Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Power Up reached the No. 1 in 18 countries, including the US, which sold more than 117,000 copies in its first week.
In Great Britain, Power Ups opened with first week sales of 62,000. 52,955 units, this is in physical format (CD, vinyl, cassette).
AC / DC is the only Australian group in history to have an album No. 1 in his home country for five decades: Back In Black (1980s), Ballbreaker Live (1990s), Black Ice (2000s), Rock Or Bust (2010s) and Power Up (2020s).
Power Up featured the AC / DC 2020 lineup consisting of Brian Johnson (vocals), Phil Rudd (drums), Cliff Williams (bass), Angus Young (guitar) and Stevie Young (guitar). The album was recorded for six weeks in August and September 2018 at Warehouse Studios in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien, who also worked on 2008's Black Ice and 2014's Rock Or Bust.
Power Up is an AC / DC tribute to Angus's younger brother, Malcolm Young, who died in 2017 of the effects of dementia at age 64. Malcolm is credited with writing all 12 songs on Power Up, along with Angus.
