Orphanage Children In Palembang Tortured, KPAI Encourages Police To Completely Investigate
PALEMBANG - Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Palembang City, South Sumatra asked the police to reveal cases of abuse in orphanages so that the problem is clear.
"We ask investigators from the police to reveal as clearly as possible regarding the case, if there are indications that other victims or other violence other than psychological violence can be opened," said Head of KPAI Palembang City, Romy Apriansyah, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 27.
He said his party saw that some of the orphanage children who were victims of the abuse experienced severe trauma.
"We have directly reviewed the victims, there are more than four children who are still in severe trauma, it has been proven that we have asked earlier but no one wants to confess," he said.
Romy explained that the violence experienced by these children was an extraordinary crime or extraordinary violence.
"But indeed in the code of ethics of children, slowly to reveal it. Usually in the next two to three days these children can be open to telling the true story of the incident. Given that this child's violence is extraordinary violence," he explained.
For the next steps that will be taken by KPAI Palembang City, he said, it is still waiting for the development of these children to return to normal.
"Currently we are waiting for the recovery of these children first to be able to return to normal as usual, later we will see the progress," he said.
He also appealed that no one else on behalf of social institutions or orphanages should only be used for personal gain and a handful of groups.
Currently, the children who are victims of alleged abuse at the orphanage are being recollied to the Budi Perkasa Center shelter in Palembang City owned by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos).
