Congratulations, Michelle Yeoh Becomes The First Asian Woman To Win The 2023 SAG Awards

JAKARTA - Michelle Yeoh made new achievements as well as history in film. She was named the first Asian actress to win the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Award (SAG) in the main category.

Michelle Yeoh won Best Performance by a Female Actor for the film Everything Where All at Once. When he received the award, Yeoh seemed emotional and grateful to everyone who knew about his journey.

I think if I talk, my heart will explode. SAG-AFTRA, got this award that you understand what it's like... you know the journey, rollerse. But most importantly we never give up, I thank you," Michelle Yeoh said on Sunday, February 26 local time.

"This award is not just for me, it's for every little girl like me," he said again.

Michelle Yeoh became the second Asian woman to be nominated for Best Actress after Zhang Ziyi in the film Memoirs of a Allah (2005). She was also the second to win an acting category trophy after Youn Yuh Jung in the film Minari (2020).

But for the first time, Michelle Yeoh won the general category at the prestigious award. He is side by side with his co-star, Ke Huy Quan who won Best Actor at the 2023 SAG Awards.

Not only that, for the first time, the SAG Awards are filled with various nominations dominated by women.

Michelle Yeoh co-leads 11 Oscar nominations thanks to her role as part of the film Everything Where All at Once. To date, only five Asian actresses have won the Oscars since it was held 95 years ago.
