PLN Is Open About Calculating The Electric Vehicle Emission
PT PLN (Persero) is encouraging the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia as an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo invites the public to be able to switch from fossil-based vehicles to electric vehicles. By using electric vehicles, the community has contributed to reducing emissions by 56 percent.
"As an illustration, 1 liter of fuel oil (BBM) is equivalent to 1.2 kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. The carbon emission of 1 liter of fuel is equivalent to 2.4 kilograms (kg) of CO2e, while 1.2 kWh of electricity is equivalent to 1.02 kg of CO2e", Darmawan told the media quoted Monday, February 27.
Moreover, said Darmawan, the electricity provided to charge vehicles will also be cleaner, following the construction of a new and renewable energy (EBT)-based plant.
"Along with the PLN generator that will go to EBT, in the future the emission electric vehicle will be zero," said Darmawan.
Darmawan emphasized that apart from being environmentally friendly, the advantage of electric vehicles is that it is more efficient.
As an illustration, a car with 10 kilometers (km) of fuel costs 1 liter of fuel, while an electric car with the same distance costs 1.2 kWh.
So, assuming an electricity tariff of IDR 1,699.53 per kWh, it only takes around IDR 2,500 for electric cars and around IDR 14 thousand for fuel cars in a distance of 10 km.
Dengan begitu menggunakan mobil listrik lebih hemat sekitar 75 persen dari pada menggunakan mobil BBM.
Not only that, said Darmawan, the use of electric vehicles can still look cool.
Because currently the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and PLN have made a breakthrough by converting fuel vehicles to electricity.
"Through the conversion of electric vehicles, automotive lovers can still be creative according to their wishes. For example, by converting an old Vespa motorbike or a contemporary customer motorcycle into an electric vehicle," concluded Darmawan.
The invitation to switch to electric vehicles is because it is cleaner and more efficient, not just a figment.
Om Mobi, one of Indonesia's automotive YouTubers, said that by using electric vehicles, people can contribute to protecting the environment.
"I think people need to know that there are electric vehicles that are environmentally friendly and sometimes faster and certainly more enjoyable. People must know electricity, even though we humans must have enjoyed electricity since we were born. Only, this is the time for us to shift from fuel, from fossil fuels, to electricity, now is the time," said Om Mobi.
