The Car Was Crushed By A Fallen Tree Due To A Landslide On The Trenggalek-Ponorogo Route, 5 People Were Injured
TRENGGALEK - Five people were injured after a convoy of vehicles was trapped by avalanches of falling material on the Trenggalek-Ponorogo Km 18 national road, Trenggalek, East Java.
Two cars, namely the Toyota Pajero and Daihatsu Granmax, were hit by a fallen tree. Five passengers were injured.
"The landslides also caused quite severe traffic jams for up to several hours", said Head of Tugu Police, AKP Anwar, reported by ANTARA, Sunday, February 26.
Around 20.40 WIB, Sunday, February 26, traffic flow was normal for vehicles to pass after officers evacuated two fallen sengon buto trees belonging to Perum Perhutani with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a height of 15 meters which fell.
"And closed the road. In addition, the landslide material at Km 16.5 also closed part of the road, so there are two points. At 20.40 WIB the traffic flow was smooth, but we urge the public to be vigilant when crossing", he said.
Before the falling trees and landslides, the Tugu District area was reported to have experienced high-intensity rain accompanied by strong winds from 15.30 WIB to 16.30 WIB.
Apart from that, inundation floods also occurred on the road in front of Dermosari Village Hall, Tugu District due to the overflow of water in the surrounding river. Motorists are advised to be vigilant when crossing.
Meanwhile, the Head of BPBD Trenggalek Regency Triadi Atmono said, after the incident occurred, joint officers consisting of the TNI-Police, BPBD, National Road Agency and other related parties assisted by the community were immediately deployed to the scene of the incident for the evacuation process.
The evacuation took almost four hours due to the difficulty of the terrain.
For the evacuation process, officials had to cut down trees blocking the road and deploy heavy equipment to move the avalanche material.
Triadi detailed, there were 11 people from the two cars that were hit by the fallen tree. Nine people consisting of adult passengers and children were in the car with license plate number AG 1307 YS and two people were in car AB 8967 RB.
A total of five people from the car with police number AG 1307 YS had to undergo treatment at the hospital, while the others survived without suffering any injuries.
