Harmony In Family And School Environments Needs To Be Built To Make Children With Good Characters
JAKARTA - Professor of the University of Indonesia Prof. Dr Lydiaani Hawadi MSI Psychologist said schools are at the forefront of overseeing the development of students' characters.
"After students receive character education at home from their parents or closest family, the school will be at the forefront of overseeing the development of a good character for a child," said Prof Lydia IDani Hawadi, quoted from Antara, Sunday, February 26.
Prof. Lydia, also known as Prof. Reni, added that schools will further strengthen education and character values for students so that they can grow as noble individuals.
According to him, character education given from an early age which aims to make children grow and develop into individuals with noble character and integrity is the duty of their parents.
"Parents who play a role in laying the foundations of morals, morals, and good deeds as a provision for their children to interact in a wider social environment," he said.
After that, moral knowledge, whether or character education obtained by children from their parents, family or the immediate environment, will be strengthened by the wider environment around the child.
"The environments around the children in question are schools, surrounding neighbors, places of worship, places of children's lessons, basically communities that can be supportive of the good values that children receive at home," he said.
Thus, he said, in order for character education in schools to run well, a good partnership is needed between schools and parents.
"Families become equal partners to achieve educational goals for all students. Harmonic relations between schools and families are essential things that need to be built to optimize children's education in the academic, social, and emotional realm," he said.
Prof. Lydia, who once served as Director General of Early Childhood Education, Non-Formal and Informal (PAUDNI) of the Ministry of National Education for the 2012-2014 period, said families and schools play an important role in supporting the optimization of children's growth and development, especially in terms of character education.
"Families and schools have an influence on the overall performance of students. What children show is the result of cooperation between schools and parents or families at home," he said.
