Not Only In Indonesia, Netflix Also Lowers Its Langgant Price In 30 Other Countries

JAKARTA - Although Netflix's subscription price in North America had risen last year, the film streaming platform and TV shows appear to have lowered the price of subscription packages in several countries, including in Indonesia.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journey, Netflix has also lowered its subscription package prices in more than 30 countries, including the Middle East (Yaman, Jordan, Libya and Iran), Sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya), Europe (Croatia, Slovenia, and Bulgaria), Latin America (Nikagua, Ecuador and Venezuela) and Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines).

While the rise or drop in periodic prices has become a common occurrence for Netflix, seeing the company as it expands its audience, as well as introducing cheaper ad support packages in 12 countries last October.

During a Netflix earnings call in January, co-CEO Greg Peters said the company wanted to find areas that could raise prices helped fund new content investments.

We consider ourselves non-replaceable items, said Peters, launching Engadget. According to Peters, the regional price increase also allowed Netflix to add subscribers to the global market where the share could be higher.

Based on the Netflix page, the price for the Basic subscription package in Indonesia fell to IDR 65 thousand, from the previous IDR 120 thousand. Meanwhile, the price for the Standard package is now priced at IDR 120 thousand, from the previous price of IDR 153 thousand.

Netflix is also still rolling out new monthly fees for people who share their login credentials outside the home. After piloting programs in Latin America, the company has launched it in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain.

The new fee for that is $8 (Rp121 thousand) in Canada and New Zealand, 4 Euros (Rp64.5 thousand) in Portugal and 6 Euros (Rp96 thousand) in Spain. This additional cost is also expected to come to the US earlier this year.
