Minister Trenggono: Natural Resources Will Run Out If They Continue To Be Explored

JAKARTA - Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono asked his staff at the Directorate General of Aquaculture (DJPB) to immediately realize the development of the aquaculture sub-sector.

"We have to move to develop cultivation villages, for example Nila Village, Lele Village, Shrimp Village. The names are adjusted according to what commodities are most dominant in that place," said Trenggono while giving directions to 15 heads of UPT DJPB in Karawang, West Java. quoted from his written statement, Friday, January 8.

He assessed that the development of this cultivation center is necessary. Apart from being an economic resource for the community, this cultivation keeps natural resources, especially aquatic products, not depleted due to continuous exploration.

"It is necessary to develop new economic resources in the marine and fisheries sector through aquaculture because natural resources can be depleted if they continue to be explored. And every time you do something there must be added value, for the welfare of the community, as well as for the country," he said.

In the framework of developing this cultivation, Trenggono asked that this development be accompanied by a mature economic and social calculation so that the community could benefit and the development involved the local government.

He also mentioned that the development of fisheries cultivation centers is a new, environmentally friendly economic source. This is because one of the markers of the success of the cultivation center is not how large the pond is but the size of the resulting economic turnover.

In addition, in the future, activities in cultivation centers can be utilized in various activities such as buying and selling activities, culinary, to tourism.

On this occasion, Trenggono also asked his staff to provide excellent service to the marine and fisheries community and to maintain solidity within the KKP.

Not only that, he also asked his staff to increase supervision, especially protecting the sea from perpetrators of illegaf-fishing and destructive fishing activities.

"The maritime and fisheries sector is a large ship that we must protect from the point of view of its sustainability. On the other hand, we ensure the welfare of the community and income for the state," he concluded.
