Jokowi Regarding The Capital City Moving To IKN Nusantara, Jokowi: The Main Reason For Equity

President Joko Widodo said the main reason behind the transfer of government centers from Jakarta to the state capital (IKN) of the archipelago in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) was equity.

"The main reason is equitable distribution," said Jokowi at the opening of the 2023 Muhammadiyah Youth PP XVIII Congress in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Wednesday, February 22, monitored from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.

Jokowi then explained that Indonesia has around 17,000 islands. However, the highest economic growth in the country was enjoyed by Java Island. The latest gross domestic product (GDP) on the island of Java grew 58 percent.

"Then how much is the 16,999 islands given? All of them are in Java 58 percent and 56 percent of the Indonesian population is in Java, how dense is Java Island, so it requires equal distribution of development. Not Javanesecentric but Indonesian-centric", said Jokowi.

In addition to the main reasons expressed, Jokowi explained other factors for moving the capital city from Jakarta to IKN Nusantara.

Jokowi explained that later Jakarta would be used as a business center, economic tourism. Meanwhile, Nusantara will be fully prepared as the center of government

Jokowi explained that the movement of the nation's capital is certainly not an easy and fast thing. In fact, the prediction is that IKN development will only be completed in the next 15-20 years.

The head of state said the movement of the capital could not be as fast as lightning. It needs preparation so that it is targeted that IKN development will only be completed in the next 15-20 years.

"But we have to dare to start," challenged Jokowi.
