Different Attitudes Of PT KAI And PT Transjakarta In Highlighting Sexual Harassment Cases, Which One Is Right?

JAKARTA Until now, the government continues to provide convenience for the public to use public transportation. The goal is none other than to reduce the level of congestion in Jakarta and its surroundings. The ease of accessing transportation is often presented so that people remain comfortable in traveling.

Electric Rail Train (KRL) and Transjakarta buses are two modes of transportation, which until now have become an option for the community in carrying out activities. However, along with this convenience, problems have emerged that have often occurred, namely sexual harassment.

In various cases of sexual harassment in transportation modes, KRL and Transjakarta buses, the perpetrators always use the same mode, namely passenger density. This moment became a gap for the perpetrators to launch their actions.

For example, sexual harassment by Mufarok, a 56-year-old man who works as a freelance daily officer (PHL) at the Tambora Traffic Police Post (Pos Polantas). The perpetrator was arrested after female victims dared to speak out on the bus. Mufarok was caught by a male passenger who was also on the bus.

Another sexual harassment case occurred on the Electric Rail Train (KRL) by a man against a young female passenger. The abuse was caught on amateur video which went viral on social media. But unfortunately the perpetrator was not revealed and KAI did not receive a report.

With cases of sexual harassment in the two modes of transportation, each party, namely KAI Commuter and PT Transjakarta, gave a different attitude.

Head of the Corporate Secretary and Public Relations Division of PT Trasjakarta Apriastini Bakti Bugiansri, in a case of sexual harassment that recently occurred, appreciated the bold and swift steps taken by the victim to find sexual harassment he experienced on the Transjakarta bus.

"Regarding the video of sexual harassment experienced by a female customer while in the Transjakarta bus fleet on the Pulogadung Harmoni route on Monday (February 20) night, it is true that the incident did occur," Apriastini said in his statement, Tuesday, February 21.

"I am very grateful and appreciate the courage of the victims and the alertness of fellow Transjakarta post-mortem officers in responding to every crime that occurs in the Transjakarta service environment, including sexual harassment," he explained.

Apriastini condemned the actions of perpetrators of sexual harassment, both in this case and other cases of abuse against Transjakarta services.

"Anyone who commits it must be dealt with strictly/firmly according to the applicable law, then we will leave the handling of the case to the authorities," he said.

In contrast to PT KAI which responded to cases of sexual harassment on trains which actually prohibited passengers from recording videos and spreading them to social media.

KAI Commuter External Relations & Corporate Image Care Manager Leza Arlan actually appealed and reminded passengers who boarded the KRL, if they experienced a criminal act or were harassed to immediately report to officers in the field for further action.

"KAI Commuter reminds users to immediately report to security officers or reprimand them immediately if they see inappropriate things that violate decency norms," he said.

Leza reminded passengers who were abused not to record and spread it to the public for violating Article 27 Paragraph 1 of the ITE Law. The reason, said Leza, is that the train carriages have CCTV that can detect faces.

In the case of sexual harassment on a Transjakarta bus, the victim with the initials H had posted the incident to his Twitter account. Even though at the time of the incident the perpetrator had been handled and secured by officers. However, the victim still shared his experience on social media.

Meanwhile, in the case of sexual harassment on the train, it was revealed after another passenger recorded the video of the incident. The video recorder also uploaded it to social media so that the action can be known.

But unfortunately, until now the perpetrator has not been revealed even though PT KAI claims there is CCTV that can monitor the movements of passengers and detect faces.
