New Album Mercyful Fate Immediately Released, 3 Songs Of Rampung Executed

JAKARTA - Members of Mercyful Fate; King Diamond (vocals), Hank Shermann (guitar), and Mike Wear (guitar) spoke to Guitar World magazine about their upcoming studio album. The plan, this album will arrive before the end of 2023.

Regarding Mercyful Fate's new song, The Jackal Of Salzburg, which they performed live in Hannover, Germany last June, Wead said this was one of the most epic songs from a series of songs in their new album.

"It's a bit of bombastic, with a touch of metal resistance, which is a little different for Mercyful. But once again, Mercyful has never been a silent band either," said Wead.

As for Shermann, admitted that he did not know about the timeline for Mercyful Fate's new album. However, he emphasized that at this time he already had at least eight or nine songs ready to be worked on.

"We already have three songs that have been done, outside (the nine songs), and the drum parts for the song The Jackal of Salzburg have been recorded. I would also say it may depend on what the reaction from the US tour [the 2022 fall season]," he continued.

In lyrics, The Jackal Of Salzburg was inspired by one of the hunt for the last great witch, Zaubererjackl's court in Salzburg, Austria (1675-90). A total of 139 people were executed as followers of Wizard Jackl or Magician Jackl or J wayackel, who he was never found.

"It's very strange, man," King told Guitar World about the source of their inspiras on this song. "There was a young man, 20 years old, whose mother was burned alive as a witch in 1675. Two years later they started hunting [his son] based on a confession made by his mother under torture, in which he surrendered his son because he was allied with the devil."

"It's shocking when you think of stabbing a child in a terrible object that climbs back and out through your mouth, or on wheels that will separate them. It's really crazy."
