Hayley Williams Depression Depicted In Petals For Armor I
JAKARTA - Vocalist for the band Paramore, Hayley Williams, released a solo mini album (EP) titled Petals For Armor I, Thursday, February 6. This EP marks his first solo project after a career in the music industry for nearly 17 years.
This solo project was first announced via Williams' Twitter tweet at the end of December 2019. After thanking fans for birthday wishes, he then provided information regarding his solo project.
Williams released Simmer as the first single. Leave It Alone was then asked to be the second single, followed up by Cinnamon and closed with a mini album.
The music video as a visual representation was prepared by the Meridian-born singer along with the release of the EP. Cinnamon, a minimalist track with a drum that is not loud is produced by Taylor York, Paramore personnel. York also produced all the songs in Petals For Armor I.
Cinnamon tells about Williams' life with her dog, Alf, who lives with her. Alf is the reason why Williams feels more alive. "Because he will be waiting for me to return home, whatever it is. I can't think of that, "he said during an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats1.
The music video illustrates it all. When Williams walked away but felt suspicious, he saw his dog was touched by "something" that bothered him. He also ran so that it would avoid him.
Through an interview with BBC Radio 1, the 31-year-old singer revealed his vision in making a solo album. “I started having visions like a strange creepy flower growing out of me and not in a pretty way. It was very painful and very strange but there were many who were trying really hard to get out of me and it was painful to do. "
Since Simmer's first single, continued with the slow tempo track Leave It Alone, which tells the story of the depression and loss he experienced, then Cinnamon's next track explores Williams' funk side. The other two tracks, Creepin 'and Sudden Desire still express the same feeling. It's just that Sudden Desire features Williams's voice that is more screaming than the previous tracks which sounded soft and relaxed.
All in all, Petals For Armor I is Hayley Williams' way of telling the feelings of loss and heartbreak from those around her. Music is indeed the best way around this and Williams doesn't stop there. The full album Petals For Armor will be released on May 8.
