Curfew Set To Restore Washington DC Security In Post-Capitol Hill Riots
JAKARTA - Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a curfew throughout the city, starting at 6 pm local time. This is done in order to provide wider space for the security authorities to secure the city.
Previously, the police, National Guard troops, the FBI and the Secret Service were deployed to secure Capitol Hill, which was attacked by Donald Trump's supporters.
“This is how the election results are debated in our 'Banana Republic,' not our 'Democratic Republic'. I am shocked by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election, "President George W. Bush responded to the unrest.
Trump supporters damaged parts of Capitol Hill. They use chemicals to attack the police. The chemical irritates the police. Several policemen were injured. Four people died, Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee.
The US Capitol Historical Society called Trump's supporters the most destructive since the British Army set fire to them in 1814. A protester took the Senate stage and shouted, "Trump won the election."
Crowds reversed barricades and clashed with police as thousands descended on the grounds of Capitol Hill. The US Congress, which was the target of Trump's supporters, was stalled before resuming.
"To those who made trouble on Capitol Hill today, you did not win. Let's get back to work. We will certify the winners of the 2020 elections," said US Senate President who is also Vice President Mike Pence as chairman of the session while continuing the agenda of the session.
