Palembang's Musi VI Bridge, Which Is Sparkling With Colorful Lights, Will Open Tomorrow

PALEMBANG - Musi VI Bridge in Palembang, South Sumatra (Sumsel) will be opened to the public tomorrow, Wednesday, January 6. The Musi VI Bridge was previously inaugurated on December 30, 2020.

"According to plan, January 6 was opened and operationalized. The public can already use this Musi VI Bridge, ”Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Office of Highways and Spatial Planning Darma Budhi in Palembang quoted Antara, Tuesday, January 5.

His party has also held a coordination meeting with the Palembang Police Department of Transportation and Traffic Unit (Satlantas), to open a bridge for the community.

The bridge that connects the Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir areas has a total length of 925 meters, a width of 11.5 meters and for two two-way lanes, each 8.5 meters wide plus a sidewalk with a width of 1.5 meters. The height to the water surface of the Musi River is 13 meters and the axle load capacity is 8 tons.

Budhi said that the construction of the Musi VI Bridge cost Rp. 548 billion, divided into Rp. 334 billion in phase one, Rp. 135 billion for the second stage and Rp. 78 billion for the third stage.

The bridge construction process took 6 years with various obstacles, including reducing the state budget funds for the Asian Games to land acquisition.

Regarding the maintenance of this bridge, it is the responsibility of the Public Works Office of Bina Marga - Spatial Planning of South Sumatra Province because the Palembang City Government has stated that it is not able to budget.

"We will budget for electricity and maintenance. Every month, it costs around Rp.50-60 million for electricity alone and the City Government of Palembang objected. Apart from the maintenance of the lights, there are also funds for special officers, "he said.

Budhi expressed his hope that the operation of this bridge could smoothen traffic flow, especially reducing the burden on Jalan Jendral Sudirman and Ampera Bridge.

"Now heading to the Kayu Agung toll gate through Keramasan. The people of western Palembang pass here, not through Jakabaring and Palembang Musi II Bridge, ”he said.
