Virgin Orbit Boss Assess The LauncherOne Rocket Failed To Print History Because Of Component Prices Of IDR 1.5 Million
JAKARTA The first launch of Virgin Orbit's LauncherOne rocket from British soil was supposed to be a milestone, but ended in failure due to a single component priced at only $100 worth IDR 1.5 million.
This was stated by Virgin Orbit CEO Dan Hart, where evidence has so far shown filters in the second phase of the rocket's engine were detached and causing problems.
Everything points to, at the moment, a filter that clearly exists when we assemble the rocket but not there when the second stage engine is turned on, meaning it removes and causes damage downstream, "explained Hart.
"It's like a 100-dollar piece that took us out," he added.
Hart also said Virgin Orbit would no longer use the filter and was currently looking for other ways to make repairs.
It is known, the company launched its historic mission dubbed Start Me Up from Spaceport Frankfurt on January 9. Initially, everything went smoothly, where the LauncherOne rocket could be separated from its busking aircraft.
Saat itu, Virgin Orbit melaporkan tahap pemisahannya berhasil. Namun tidak lama, roket tersebut tiba-tiba tidak dapat mencapai orbit seperti yang direncanakan.
The LauncherOne rocket on this mission carries satellites from seven customers, including government entities. One of its payloads is a joint project between the British Defense Science and Technology Laboratory and the US Navy Research Laboratory called the Coordinated Ionospheric Reconstruction CubeSat Experiment (CIRCE).
Quoted from Engadget, Friday, February 10, Hart stated, the company was not finished with its investigation, but he was confident enough to reveal the results.
Lastly, he also promised to carry out a full investigation of the root cause of the anomaly, but they will try to launch another mission as early as this year.
