Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati appealed to the Indonesian people to build a culture ready to face earthquakes.
Dwikorita said that Indonesia is in an active plate area so that almost all parts of Indonesia are earthquake-prone areas.
"We are in the zone of the impact area of active plates. So let's build a culture to always be ready to anticipate, be aware of earthquakes," Dwikorita said at a conference that was attended online, Thursday, February 9, was confiscated by Antara.
He revealed that one of the areas where earthquakes often occur is Jayapura, Papua.

"Events or earthquakes that occur in Jayapura and surrounding areas have often occurred, this is due to the condition of the rocks in the area, which are brittle in type. So, this fragile condition causes a sensitive shaking," he said.
On that occasion, Dwikorita expressed his appreciation to the local government for actively socializing the earthquake so that people are ready to face the earthquake.
"So, the keyword is that we are in an earthquake-prone area, let's strengthen our capacity to protect ourselves, to help ourselves, ready to face disasters so that there are no casualties and losses," he said.
Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, added that people need to pay attention to earthquake-resistant buildings in order to avoid casualties due to the earthquake.
