Jayapura City Police Said 4 Residents Died Of Earthquake

Jayapura City Police said the impact of the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred caused the victim of four people to die in one of the cafes at the Dok II Permai shophouse because his restaurant collapsed into the sea.

Jayapura City Police Chief Kombes Pol Victor D. Mackbon when confirmed said that seven victims were successfully evacuated by a joint team from Polair and Lantamal X Jayapura. And temporary information that four people were declared dead.

"But we will confirm this information again by checking the identity of the victim at the hospital," he said in a written statement received from Jayapura, Thursday, February 9, as reported by Antara.

In addition to the incident at the cafe, he said, in Hamadi Rawa there was also a fire in five plots of houses but the officers had immediately extinguished them.

The police chief hopes that his party will remain vigilant, the earthquake that occurred was quite intense, but stay alert but don't panic.

"If the building is cracked, please evacuate to a safer place. For people who want to carry out activities on the beach to avoid it, let's learn from the existing experience," he said.

He added that his party was still recording the amount of losses that occurred due to the natural earthquake that hit Jayapura City at 15.28 a.m. on a scale of 5.4.
