Get Ready Mother, Egg Prices In Jakarta Will Skyrocket Ahead Of Ramadan

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agricultural Security Service (DKPKP) Suharini Eliawati revealed that the price of eggs will continue to rise ahead of this year's Ramadan. This can be seen from the upward trend in food commodity prices that occur every year.

"As the upward and decline trends approach HBKN (national religious holidays), usually food commodity prices are the highest before Ramadan are eggs," Eli told reporters, Thursday, February 9.

Eli has not been able to predict how much the price of eggs will increase in Ramadan this year. Based on previous data, the increase in egg prices could reach 7 percent of the highest retail price (HET) set at IDR 27,000 per kilogram.

"We'll try to see for the current period. According to data for the last 5 years, the highest price increase in eggs could be up to 7 percent. Other (commodities), for us (increase the price) is normal," explained Eli.

Meanwhile, other food commodities such as rice and meat, according to Eli, are predicted not to experience a significant price increase.

"Why do we say it's normal, it's time for traders to feel a little price increase. If it's still at 0 to 3 percent, we consider each price increase for us normal," he said.

In line with that, the DKI Provincial Government also continues the subsidized cheap food program. With the subsidy program, residents only need to pay Rp126 thousand to buy one kilogram of beef, 0.9 kilograms of chicken meat, 15 eggs, 1 kilogram of bloating fish, 5 kilograms of rice, and UHT milk.

"So if food subsidies will continue to run, the price will still be for the community, what changes is that we provide subsidies," he added.
