Bukan Bangkrut, Aprindo Sebut Transmart Sedang Dedesign Kembali Model Bisnis
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) has denied that Chairul Tanjung's modern retailer Transmart went bankrupt. The decision to close several outlets was because the company was redesigning a business model.
"So what happened at Transmart was not bankrupt, colllapse, this is Aprindo's statement, but they are re-engineering their business plan. Download the map business again," said Aprindo Chairman Roy Nicholas Mandey to reporters written Thursday, February 9.
Furthermore, Roy said Transmart closed several of its outlets because it wanted to relocate the place. The reason, said Roy, is that some areas have turned into offices and are no longer residential. Thus, the visit is reduced.
Therefore, continued Roy, Transmart is transforming to adjust the conditions of the times with the redesign of its business model, service level, then the availability of goods or mix tenants will be regulated.
"So it's closed not because it's bankrupt, but the rent runs out, the relocation, the regions don't have the potential, there are business changes," he explained.
Roy admits that the retail industry cannot make changes quickly following the demand trend. Because, it takes time to organize goods, stocks, and places.
Transmart, according to Roy, is one example of the hypermarket class retail network business under Trans Retail that is not running smoothly. Meanwhile, consumer behavior continues to change rapidly.
"Yesterday, I saw that when the owner went down, visited various shops, he immediately took the intuition of his business to change the oh, I want this to be distinguished from the location, different from the lighting, different locations, the term is going down the mountain,' he explained.
Even so, Roy was reluctant to mention Transmart's business strategy was wrong. Roy emphasized that he had only not quickly adjusted the conditions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"So if there is something missing or closed and so on, it's not going bankrupt but they are managing or relocating," he said.
Regarding Transmart's closed relocation plan, Roy admitted that he did not know. Even so, he believes Transmart has prepared a strategy to survive.
"I haven't been able to (information the new location) yet, asking Transmart, but what is certain is that they already stated that when the owner had gone down the mountain, seeing things that had to change, it turned out to be getting better again," he explained.
