Abu Bakar Bashir's Health Condition Had Decreased Before Being Free

JAKARTA - The head of the Special Class IIA Gunung Sindur Penitentiary, Mujiarto, said that the health condition of terrorism convict Abu Bakar Ba'asyir had decreased before being released on Friday, January 8, 2021.

"Some time ago I was referred to RSCM, 24 November to 10 Dec 2020, after that it improved, so we returned to the special prison for Mount Sindur," he said when contacted by Antara in Bogor, reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 4.

According to him, now Abu Bakar Ba'asyir is in a special terrorist cell in a healthy condition even though he is physically old because he is more than 80 years old.

"Currently, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir is in good health in the special block (terrorist) cell Block D of Gunung Sindur Prison," said Mujiarto.

Meanwhile, Putra Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, Abdul Rahim Ba'asyir said that the family would pick up a limited number of people to anticipate the spread of COVID-19.

"It's also dangerous if he meets a lot of people, shakes and so on. Even if someone later visits the house, we limit it, meaning that there are really restrictions (PSBB)," said Abdul Rahim.

As is known, the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights said that Abu Bakar Ba'asyir would be free on Friday, January 8, from Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor.

Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Imam Suyudi, said that Ba'asyir's release was confirmed according to procedure. According to him, Ba'asyir has served a 15-year sentence minus a 55-month remission.

"He has served the sentence well, and followed all the provisions and procedures, the implementation of security coaching at the maximum security level prison, Gunung Sindur Prison, and on Friday (8/1) we will release it," said Suyudi.
