The Threat Of African Babi Fever Is Still High, The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government For Inter-Island Babi Delivery Even Though For Customary Affairs
The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government still prohibits sending inter-island pigs from NTT as an effort to prevent transmission of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus or African Babi fever."The NTT regional government has banned the delivery of pigs between islands in NTT. The ban has been in effect since last January in all regencies/cities in NTT," said Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Division of the East Nusa Tenggara Province Animal Husbandry Service Melky Angsar in Kupang, Antara, Wednesday, February 8.Melky Angsar said this was related to the efforts of the NTT government in preventing the spread of the ASF virus in areas that are currently still free from ASF cases in NTT.According to him, the ban on the delivery of pigs between islands in NTT is valid until this area has been declared safe from the ASF case."If the Babi shipment is carried out, the spread of the ASF virus will be faster so that the ban on the delivery of pigs will still be enforced in all districts/cities in NTT according to the instructions of the Governor of NTT number 03/2023 concerning the eradication of mouth disease and nails in livestock," said Melky Angsar. He said that currently quarantine at the doors of border areas from Timor Leste to NTT has tightened security to anticipate the entry of Babi cattle from outside the NTT region."Some time ago the Kupang Quarantine burned 500kg of wild boar meat from Sulawesi that entered NTT. This proves that the quarantine is on standby in anticipation of the entry of livestock and processed pork from outside NTT," said Melky Angsar. He said strict supervision of the entry of the tak Babi from outside was also carried out by the district/city government in NTT.The NTT government, he said, appreciated the firm steps taken by the Central Sumba Regency Government which prohibited pigs from neighboring the Sumba Island district from entering the area even for customary reasons.
