Epidemiologist: Cases Of Kidney Failure In Indonesia Fill In The Criteria For Extraordinary Incidents

Epidemiologist from Griffith University Australia, Dicky Budiman, assesses that the development of acute kidney failure cases in children in Indonesia has met the criteria for determining the status of Extraordinary Incidents (KLB).

"I always say that from the start, this acute kidney failure case has met the criteria to be designated as a KLB," said Dicky in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 7, as reported by Antara.

Dicky highlighted a number of KLB indicators such as the number of findings of acute kidney failure cases that continued to increase, until the length of time the incident had met the requirements for the determination of the KLB status, so that the government was expected to immediately determine the status of the KLB, so that there was a legal status and all parties moved simultaneously.

He is worried that if the government continues to buy time and does not immediately investigate cases thoroughly, a similar case will emerge that is dangerous for children.

We often underestimate legal certainty or related to the existence of regulations that support action. Because there is a government culture that feels its actions are important, or has taken action. This is a wrong view and does not look at aspects of sustainability and health resilience," he said.

According to him, the government needs to learn from history based on science, the process of identifying problems, conducting studies and sequencing each problem comprehensively.

"So when it comes to drugs, this is not a new thing, in developing and poor countries this has been going on for a long time, it is still a global problem. This is not talking about WHO issues, but there are WTOs and so on. Moreover, it is getting lower to the lower level, the national party, this local party must step down, be pounded, and arranged," said Dicky.

Another thing that is feared is related to the distribution of counterfeit drugs in a number of health facilities. This proves that the level of detection of dangerous drugs circulating in the community is still low.

"If there is only one case, it represents many cases. This is the responsibility of every level of government and it becomes a problem if the sense of crisis is not built at every level and finally appoints each other because there is no previous solution," he said.

Therefore, he hopes that the government will participate in making each case a lesson and getting rid of political and economic problems for a moment, to focus on prioritizing public health.

"Moreover, a big event like the G20 has passed. Now is the time to be serious. The government's term of office is now over, so show it to be repaired and become capital in this regime for the next government," said Dicky.

Meanwhile, for the community, he requested that cases of acute kidney failure in children continue to be guarded because of the long process and the community use this case as a lesson to always consult medical personnel and not self-medication.

At least the government has a plan and that must be guarded and prosecuted by the public. Talking about medicine, consumption according to the advice of a doctor or pharmacist and this must be a lesson. If you are sick, don't treat it yourself, but ask for professional advice," he said.
